“As a teacher, you can inspire the next generation and help them to realise their ambitions. That means you can go home each day knowing you’ve made a real difference, giving all young people the chance to fulfil their potential.”

Schools Direct and Teacher Training

Schools Direct is a school led training course which blends together ‘on the job’ in school training with the theoretical research-led practice undertaken at universities. All of our courses take a school year to complete and lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). We firmly believe that the in school training delivered by our fantastic partnership of schools, combined with the academic rigour embraced by our university partners, provides a great formula for training outstanding teachers of the future.

The Pathfinder Teaching School Hub works with three different university providers. They are: The University of York, York St John and Sheffield Hallam University. This allows for bespoke training routes for different subject areas, drawing on the individual expertise of specialist staff from each university. We have worked with all of our HEI partners for many years and have developed a true partnership which helps to ensure all your training needs will be met.

The teaching school is based at Archbishop Holgate’s School which is situated three quarters of a mile from York city centre. We have a large partnership of both primary and secondary schools in York, North Yorkshire and the East Riding. This enables us to offer a variety of placement contexts and provide a truly rounded teacher training experience.
